The Association of Serbian Folklorists (ASF) gathers scholars of all disciplines in the field of folklore science (oral literature, ethnology, ethnomusicology, ethnolinguistics, ethnopsychology, anthropology, sociology of culture, and so on). It is a scientific and professional, non-governmental and non-profit organization based in Belgrade. The main goals of the Association are the study of the traditional culture of the Serbian people, as well as other nations and ethnic communities living in Serbia, the development of scientific approaches to various folklore phenomena, collection, systematization, and presentation of folklore material in archival and field research.
The Association was founded in 2014, at the suggestion of prominent Serbian folklorists. Relying in part on the achievements of the The Union of the Yugoslav Folklorists Associations, which ceased existing in 1989, the Association strives to use its own example to raise awareness of the social community about the necessity of forming institutional frameworks that will ensure unvarying steady conditions for continuous and systematic work on the development of all areas of folklore science.
Since its establishment, the Association has been focused on the following activities: the launch of the journal Folkloristika, the organization and realization of national and international scientific conferences, the publication of monographs, and realization of projects in the field of science, applied science and culture. Through the aforementioned activities, the Association, among other things, connects folklorists in Serbia and abroad with the basic goal of encouraging the development of folkloristics as a science in national and international frameworks through the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
In the realization of projects, the Association cooperates with numerous institutions – the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the University Library “Svetozar Marković” from Belgrade, the Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade, the Scientific, Educational and Cultural Center “Vuk Karadžić” from Tršić, the Cultural Center “Vuk Karadžić” from Loznica, the Institute for Literature and Art, etc.
