The Association of Serbian Folklorists has organized the sixteenth International Scientific Conference Contemporary Serbian Folkloristics in collaboration with the Institute for Literature and Arts, the University Library “Svetozar Marković,” and the Scientific, Educational, and Cultural Center “Vuk Karadžić” in Tršić, October 3–5, 2025. The organization of the Conference was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia. The primary topic of the Conference was folkloristics in digital environment, and both domestic and foreign scholars gave presentations of their research findings within the following thematic blocks:
1) Defining community and knowledge in a modern-day context;
2) Folklore genres in electronic environments;
3) Virtual worlds and questions of collecting, safeguarding, and archiving folkloric material;
4) Local cultures, (cyber) space, and intangible cultural heritage.
The other thematic unit comprised of the presentations gathered around the permanent topic of the Contemporary Serbian Folkloristics conferences entitled “Contemporary folkloristics.” Within the framework of this topic, scholars presented the results of ongoing research from any folkloristic sphere.
The keynote speakers were Prof. Ljiljana Gavrilović, PhD, with the paper entitled “Fan-fiction as contemporary folklore production and the birth of a new literary genre” and Smiljana Djordjević Belić, PhD, with the paper entitled “To dream in the digital culture day and age.”
